This is the beginning of a new venture for me. My first novel, The Hands of Christ, is now available from the publisher, and in a couple of months it will be available from the on-line bookstores (Amazon, Barnes and Noble, etc.). You can see it at this link or just Google Jon K. Elliott. The official release date for book stores will be September 13. But you can get it right now from the publisher, either the book or ebook.
The Hands of Christ is the culmination of twelve years of learning to write fiction, and of suffering many rejection letters. Included in those twelve years was taking all of the University of Kentucky's "Imaginative Writing" courses. UK provided three wonderful professors: Nikky Finney, a great Kentucky poet; Gurney Norman, a wonderful and entertaining Appalachian writer; and Kim Edwards, author of The Memory Keeper's Daughter, a New York Times bestseller. From time to time I'll post on this blog some of the short stories I wrote for my UK classes. I'm glad that's all behind me. But I don't think I'll ever stop learning about writing. If you become a reader of my stuff, I'm sure you'll be grateful for that.
In a week and a half I'll start selling my book at book signings and readings around the country. I'll list them here when they're scheduled. I hope I'll see you there, whether you buy the book or not.
The Hands of Christ is the story about a couple in their thirties, good people, church-going people, with three good kids. But after a life changing event the marriage begins to unravel, and nobody knows how to stop the unravelling. It is a commentary on our time, and on our churches. There are some things to be learned in this book that might be applicable to your own life, or to the life of someone you know.
